Mysuru, Aug. 31 (GA&BCT)- A 53-year-old man from Gayathripuram in Mysuru has lost Rs. 13.06 lakh after being duped by a woman he met through a matrimonial website. A case has been registered at the city’s Cybercrime, Economic Offences and Narcotics (CEN) Police Station.

According to the complaint, the man came into contact with a woman named Reena through a matrimonial portal on July 31 and the two began chatting.

On Aug. 17, Reena called him and claimed that she was carrying Rs. 1 crore in cash to Mumbai. She later called again, saying that Customs officials had detained her and were demanding payment of taxes and other charges.

Believing her story, the man initially transferred Rs. 91,000. Reena, however, continued to demand money on various pretexts and, in several transactions, got him to transfer a total of Rs. 13.06 lakh.

The man later found that he could not contact Reena. Realising that he had been cheated, he contacted the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930 and lodged a complaint with the Police.
