Mysuru: A week after the Government announced the reservation matrix for Mayoral polls, the in-Charge Mysuru Regional Commission M.V. Jayanti yesterday announced that the Mysuru Mayor and Deputy Mayor election will take place on Jan.24.
As per the special gazette notification issued by the Urban Development Secretarial on Jan.1, the Mayor’s post is reserved for Scheduled Caste (woman) and the Dy. Mayor’s post for Scheduled Tribe (woman).
The election is necessitated as the incumbent Mayor M.J. Ravikumar of the JD(S) and Dy. Mayor Rathna Lakshman of the BJP completed their one-year tenure on Dec.6, 2017. The Regional Commissioner will conduct the election on Jan.24.
The Congress can walk away with the Mayor post as neither the JD (S) nor the BJP have SC (woman) Corporator to claim the top most post in the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Council.
