• Massive waste clearance drive tomorrow

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), in coordination with neighbouring Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), will undertake a mass cleaning drive along the 42.5-km Outer Ring Road tomorrow (Oct. 1).

The drive is being held as part of the Central Government’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign under the theme ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath.’ However, the MCC has planned an extended drive covering major stretches of the Outer Ring Road.

The MCC has identified 15 routes covering nine Corporation Zones. Teams, comprising officials and staff from the MCC, City Municipal Councils, Gram Panchayats and Town Panchayats, will take part.

Ahead of the campaign, MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha inspected the Outer Ring Road (ORR) this morning. The inspection began at 7 am at Hinkal Junction and covered up to Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Circle (Manipal Hospital Junction).

Additional Commissioner B.N. Veena, Superintending Engineer K.J. Sindhu, Executive and Assistant Engineers, Environmental Engineers, Junior Engineers, Health Inspectors and other staff, besides NHAI officials, took part in the inspection.

Corrective measures

The team reviewed roadside cleanliness, solid and construction waste, weed and shrub growth, drainage and UGD facilities, road condition and streetlights. Officials were directed to take corrective measures wherever required.

The MCC has earmarked about 33-km for intensive cleaning. Twenty JCBs, 25 tippers and 17 dozers will be deployed for the work.

Savitha directed the MCC, NHAI and neighbouring Local Bodies to work in coordination to keep the Ring Road clean and free of waste, particularly in view of Dasara.

Pointing out neglected medians, overgrown weeds and damaged underpasses near KRS Road, RBI Belagola and Railway Subways, she directed the NHAI to complete repairs and clearing works on priority before Dasara.

Around 50 to 80 tonnes of accumulated waste near Kesare, Siddalingapura, Alanahalli and Rammanahalli are expected to be cleared using JCBs and tippers provided by the Local Bodies and NHAI.

Intensive cleaning stretches

The stretches identified for the drive include Ooty-Nanjangud Circle to Raghavendra Mutt Road, Akka Mahadevi Statue, Sumitra Steel, Aditya Circle to KEB Circle, Royal Oak Circle, Coco Grove Hotel divider, Madhu’s Tyre near Hinkal Flyover, Ward 1, Urs Car Tata showroom, KRS Road Junction, Belavatta Railway Bridge to Manipal Hospital Signal, Kesare Junction, Yasin Masjid, Dr. Mehaboob Khan Park, Sathagalli Depot, Alanahalli Ring Junction to Devegowda Circle, Yaraganahalli graveyard, VTU College Junction and Sathagalli Depot Junction.

The garbage dump on Lalithadripura Road, at the foot of Chamundi Hill and in Alanahalli, will be converted into beautified public spaces with CCTV cameras, seating benches and saplings. The area behind Lansdowne Building, which has become a public urination spot, is being cleaned and developed as a dedicated walking path. To prevent public urination near heavy vehicle parking areas, the MCC is opening free public toilets.
