MCC honours Swachhata partners

January 2, 2018

Mysuru: In an effort to encourage public participation in the cleanliness drive, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) yesterday gave away the awards for the winners of ‘Swachh Mysuru Contest.’ Various organisations and institutions were honoured for their contributions to keeping the city clean.

Mysuru, which was declared the ‘Cleanest City in India’ two consecutive times under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, slipped to the 5th place during the previous survey conducted in 2017 for the ‘cleanest city.’  But the MCC has been taking  all measures to ensure that the city regains the top position as the cleanest city during the Swachhata Survekshan 2018. The City Corporation has been encouraging private institutions and organisations to participate in clean initiatives.

As part of the ‘Swachh Mysuru’ initiative, the MCC conducted competitions in five different categories — Swachh School, Swachh Hospital, Swachh Hotel, Swachh Housing Welfare Association and Swachh Market — for which the awards were distributed yesterday at the MCC Old Council Hall.

Speaking on the occasion, MCC Commissioner  G. Jagadeesha said that the City Corporation had organised competitions for various organisations to encourage their participation in the cleanliness drives to keep our city clean.

He also added that each month MCC would be honouring the drivers of the waste segregation vehicles and is planning to extend same to other Departments as well.

Meanwhile, Mayor M.J. Ravikumar said that if Mysuru had to regain the top spot as the cleanest city, public played a vital role.

He requested the public to download the Swachhata App and help the authorities to keep the city clean. Ravikumar added that the Swachhata Survekshan 2018 would commence from Jan.4 and public can call the toll free number 1969 and give their feedback.
