Mysuru: In her submission through a team of advocates, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner M.K. Savitha told the Supreme Court that steps have been initiated for the conservation and restoration of Devaraja Market and Lansdowne Building, in accordance with the Court’s May 4, 2026 order.

Both INTACH and IIT Roorkee had found that the two heritage structures were prima facie capable of being restored, subject to a detailed scientific assessment and a comprehensive conservation plan.

Following the Court’s direction, the MCC wrote to Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) on July 7, seeking preparation of a comprehensive action plan for repairs, renovation, retrofitting and restoration.

The next day, the MCC also requested the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner to convene a meeting to discuss the restoration and future course of action, the MCC Commissioner stated.

A Heritage Committee meeting was subsequently held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on July 13. It was decided that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) should be prepared for both buildings, based on their present structural condition and the recommendations of INTACH and IIT Roorkee. The DPR is to cover necessary repairs, renovation, retrofitting, restoration and related works.

As a follow-up, the MCC issued a Tender Notification on the Karnataka Public Procurement Portal on July 18, inviting Expressions of Interest from eligible agencies/consultants for preparing the DPR.

The deadline for submission of bids, initially fixed for Aug. 3, with opening scheduled for Aug. 4, was subsequently extended by 8 days following public requests, Savitha told the Court, producing documentary evidence.
