The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) yesterday slapped a final notice on Mall of Mysore over pending taxes. The commercial establishment was asked to pay the arrears immediately failing which the Corporation threatened to lock it.
A team of MCC’s Standing Committee on Town Planning Members, led by its Chairman Nandish Preetham and officials, visited the Mall of Mysore to issue the warning. Sources said that the Mall owe to the Corporation Rs. 75 lakh for the year 2016-17.
Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, MCC Revenue Officer Kumar Naik said that the Mall owed Rs. 75 lakh and steps have been taken to recover the money. “We had sent a notice a month back to the Mall and we have also issued a 15-day notice. We will wait for the reply and take a suitable decision as per law,” he said.
Nandish Preetham told the Mall authorities that the team had visited the premises to personally issue notices as the dues were not paid. He along with other members took the owners of the business establishment to task for failing to set up a mechanised parking lot which has led to customers parking vehicles on roads.
Meanwhile, with just a month for the end of the financial year, the MCC has been able to collect only Rs. 287.8 crore tax as against the demand of Rs. 2,221 crore from 1,92,433 properties in city.
MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha has set a 15-day deadline for establishments to pay taxes failing which he has warned seizure of properties under Article 147, Section 3 of Karnataka Municipal Act.
