MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha has said that the MCC was mulling on bringing amendments to the existing building bylaws, making it mandatory for building owners to have a solar power and rain harvesting systems.

He was speaking at the workshop for scribes on ‘Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation’ organised by Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) in association with Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL) at Pathrakartara Bhavan here on Saturday.

Pointing out that the MCC has installed solar power system at its main office on Sayyaji Rao Road, Jagadeesha said that all the MCC Zonal Offices too will have a solar power system soon.

Observing that India is far behind many other countries in the use of renewable energy, he highlighted the need for creating widespread awareness on the issue.

Solar Energy driven home appliances such as solar lamps, bulbs etc., were displayed. A quiz contest was organised on the occasion, in which scribes M.T. Mahadev, N. Suresh, M.K. Ajit, Dinesh Kumar, M. Nanjundaswamy, Ravi, Prabhuswamy and S. Surendra were   declared winners.
