Mysuru: A large number of people aired their  grievances at the Janaspandana programme conducted for the first time after a gap of 10 years by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) at the MCC Zonal Office 1 near Agrahara Circle in city, here this morning.

Residents coming under Lakshmipuram, Agrahara, Sunnadakeri, Gundurao Nagar, Chamundipuram,  Vidyaranyapuram, Subbarayanakere, Ramachandra Agrahara and other adjoining areas attended.

They lodged complaints seeking solutions to fix potholes, to clean underground drainages, street lights, desilting storm water drains, poor garbage disposal mechanism, drinking water, road repair and other problems. They complained that pourakarmikas were refusing to collect garbage as the civic body had not provided glouses, safety kits and not ensured health protection to them in many Wards.

Rat infestation  

Several residents urged the MCC to take up rat control measures as rat infestation was causing huge problems and damaging properties in their houses.    

Replying to such complaints, MCC Commissioner K.H. Jagadeesha assured to look into the complaints and provided solutions to many problems on the spot.  He also directed his officers to fix the problem on top priority as well as to ensure safety kits to pourakarmikas for smooth facilitation of door-to-door garbage collection. On receiving the complaints, MCC has also issued an acknowledgement to the complainants, assuring them of addressing their grievances at the earliest.

Provide publicity

Speaking after inaugurating Janaspandana, Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath said that the MCC had conducted  a similar programme in 2008 but it had evoked poor response due to poor public participation. She asked the MCC officials to provide wide publicity atleast three days prior to Janaspandana. The Mayor also wanted the residents to pay taxes on time as revenue collection is a must for MCC to implement more people-friendly development     works.

MCC Commissioner K.H. Jagadeesha said that MCC had resumed Janaspandana to provide on the spot solution to civic problems as part of MCC’s citizen-friendly measures.

Tax collection drive

Following the poor tax collection this financial year, the MCC is also conducting tax collection drive in all its eight zones every month. This drive would help the tax-payers to pay the taxes at their doorsteps. In today’s tax collection drive at MCC Zone 1, hundreds of tax payers paid water, property and other cess on the spot.  The management of Puttaswamy Choultry paid highest amount of Rs 3.4 lakh on the spot. Zone 1 Ward Corporators B V. Manjunath, Sowmya, Lokesh, Chayadevi, Puttalingamma, Lokesh Piya, M.V. Ramprasad, Shobha and others were present.
