MCC should take delimitation exercise afresh

June 5, 2018

Sir,

This has reference to the news item titled ‘MCC Wards undergo delimitation’ (Star of Mysore dated June 1). Present day Mysuru is not the Mysuru of yesteryears. It has grown and is growing at a fast pace.

With the transfer of 62 Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and MUDA-approved Layouts to the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) sometime ago, it’s difficult to comprehend why the Corporation did not take steps and what was the hindrance to incorporate these 62 Layouts before taking delimiting exercise of the present 65 existing Wards? And the delimitation work has been undertaken mainly to see that each Ward has a population of 12000 to 14000.

Much is desired of the infrastructure in many Layouts which have been handed over by MUDA to MCC. Many approved former MUDA Layouts are in shambles (for example, P&T Employees Layout in Rajivnagar 2nd Stage). Residents are facing electricity, UGD, garbage problems and the roads are in a pathetic condition. Therefore, the Government should listen to the sane suggestion of MCC Corporator and former Mayor B. L. Bhyrappa and Corporator B. V. Manjunath to include the newly-acquired 62 MUDA / MUDA-approved Layouts and take the delimitation exercise afresh increasing the number of Wards in the due process.

Apparently, renumbering of Wards has also not been done in a proper manner going by the past practices.

MCC elections, due sometime after September should be held only after a proper review of  delimitation.
