Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner M.K. Savitha has directed officials to take measures to prevent people from climbing dilapidated buildings during the Jumboo Savari procession.

She instructed officials to identify weak and damaged buildings along the procession route and take steps to prevent spectators from climbing or entering such structures.

The Jumboo Savari route passes through MCC Zones 1, 6 and 7. Assistant Commissioners (ACs) and Development Officers (DOs) of these zones have been asked to prepare a list of buildings in poor condition.

Savitha noted that several buildings in the heart of Mysuru, particularly around the Palace area, are in a dilapidated condition. Some have remained neglected due to pending Court cases.

Apart from being an eyesore for tourists, such buildings pose a safety risk, she said. Notices will be issued to the owners, directing them to take safety measures or put up iron-sheet barricades around structures to prevent people from entering.

She specifically pointed to a large building on Ashoka Road, opposite the Palace, which has become run-down and faded. Fast-food stalls operate beneath the building in the evenings, raising concerns over safety and accountability. The MCC will trace the owners and instruct them to take immediate safety measures.

Savitha also highlighted the condition of historic Lansdowne Building, which has weakened considerably. On Jumboo Savari day, movement here will be restricted. Savitha appealed to citizens not to climb or venture close to unsafe structures.
