MCC to hotels: Let public use your loo

October 25, 2026

Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has appealed to hotels and restaurants across the city to allow members of the public to use their toilet facilities free of charge, even if they are not customers.

In a press release, the MCC said the move was aimed at improving public sanitation and making it easier for residents and visitors to access toilet facilities when needed.

Mysuru attracts a large number of tourists and visitors every day, making access to public conveniences particularly important. The MCC said the availability of toilets was essential, especially for women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

The Corporation has urged the Hotel Owners’ Association to advise its members not to restrict the use of existing toilet facilities to customers alone. Hotels and restaurants have been asked to open their restrooms to other members of the public without charging any fee.

The MCC has also called upon hotel and restaurant owners to maintain cleanliness in their toilets and ensure an adequate water supply and other basic sanitation facilities.

Staff have been asked to extend necessary cooperation to members of the public who approach them for access to the restrooms. The initiative aims to curb open urination, improve public health and hygiene, and provide a more convenient and tourist-friendly environment in the city.

MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha has appealed to the President and office-bearers of the Hotel Owners’ Association, as well as hotel and restaurant proprietors, to respond positively and extend their cooperation to make Mysuru cleaner and more citizen-friendly.
