Karnataka Madhyama Academy award recipients C.J. Rajiv, Junior Assistant Editor, Vijaya Karnataka, A.C. Prabhakar, Senior Sub-Editor, ‘Mysooru Mithra’ and K.H. Chandru, Photographers, ‘Vijayavani’ were felicitated by Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) at a function organised at its premises on Thyagaraja road here this morning.
Speaking after doing the honours, City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswar Rao said that the media has retained the trust of the public by presenting factual reports and by publishing thought provoking articles.
Observing that the social media is losing its direction, the Police Commissioner said the growing influence of social media over and above other medias was a dangerous trends.
Pointing out that the Journalists fraternity and the Police have maintained a cordial relationship over the years, Dr. A.S. Rao maintained the Police Department, like the media, has earned public trust.
Noting that media has the extraordinary power of retaining people’s faith by sticking to an ideology, he complimented the media for educating the public on a whole range of issues.
Speaking after receiving the felicitation, ‘Mysooru Mithra’ Senior Sub-Editor A.C. Prabhakar said he felt happy for receiving the award in recognition of his 26 years of service in Journalism. Sharing his experiences while reporting on Police operations to catch forest brigand Veerappan in the nineties, Prabhakar thanked the Karnataka Media Academy for recognising his service.
Another award recipient C.J. Rajiv said that reports highlighting social concerns will always earn accolades from the readers. Stating that his report on the plight of families of alcohol addicts was a silver lining in his career, he said that the media academy award was much satisfying for him.
Karnataka Madhyama Academy member K. Shivakumar in his address, said that the academy was organising a week long motivational workshop for scribes.
Calling upon the scribes to write books focussing on a particular topic, he said that the Academy will extend support for the publication of such books. MDJA President K. Deepak, Secretary K.J. Lokesh Babu, ‘Vijayavani’ resident Editor C.K. Mahendra and others were present.
