Media must highlight children’s issues: UNICEF delegate Prosun Sen

July 7, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: Prosun Sen, Communication, Advocacy and Partnership Specialist, UNICEF, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, has opined that journalists can catch the attention of readers by writing special articles and write ups related to children.

He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day workshop on ‘Media For Change-Children’s Subjects’ organised by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Mysore in association with UNICEF, here recently.

Sen said, before writing articles related to children, journalists should have a fine knowledge about laws related to kids. There is also a scope to do value addition to write-ups, by gleaning information from the departments working for the cause of children, as there is a need to improve the quality of related articles.

The editors and reporters of widely circulated newspapers should have a cornucopia of information at their disposal, to bring in reforms in the society. The workshop should not just be restricted to a newspaper or district, but should involve all journalists. It is worthy enough to note that, this workshop aims at development, health, safety and education of children, said Sen.

Senior journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar said, everyday offers an opportunity to learn for the journalists. There is a need for reorientation in journalism too, as we have to be equipped with advance methods to obtain information.

Chairperson of University of Mysore’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Prof. M.S. Sapna, Convener of Karnataka Child Rights Observatory Prof. Dr. C.K. Puttaswamy, Joint Director of Education Dr. Panduranga and others were present.
