Mysuru:  Karnataka State Child Rights Protection Commission (KSCRPC) in association with Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) had organised an interaction on ‘The role and responsibility of media in protection of Child rights’ at a private hotel in city recently.

Inaugurating the programme KSCRPC Chairperson Dr. Krupa Amar Alva contended that in the context of the media publishing reports on violation of Child Rights, the Commission was receiving a lot of complaints thus creating an awareness among people on protection of Child Rights. However, she opined that the media especially the electronic media should exercise extra caution while beaming news items on violation of Child Rights by making child victim’s picture hazy and not disclosing the names and address of the victim and the parents.

The interaction focused on child welfare, child trafficking, child labour, child marriage and abuse of children. KSCRPC Members Y. Maniswamy, Department of Women and Child Welfare Dy. Director K. Radha, MDJA President C.K. Mahendra, Child Welfare Committee Chairperson H.T. Kamala, UNICEF Regional Co-ordinator K. Raghavendra Bhat, District Child Protection Officer M.K. Kumaraswamy and others were present.
