Likely to resolve 38,752 cases out of pending 1,12,443 cases
Mysore/Mysuru: Principal District and Sessions Court Judge M.L. Raghunath, who also heads District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has said that this year’s final Lok Adalat will be held on Nov.12 to ensure amicable settlement of pending cases in Mysuru City and District Courts.
Speaking to press persons at Jayanagar Court Auditorium on Friday, he said, “There are 1,12,443 cases pending in various courts of the District, out of which 59,555 are Civil cases and 52,888 are Criminal cases. Of these, 38,752 cases are likely to be resolved in the Mega Lok Adalat and 15,852 cases have already been identified for amicable settlement.”
There are 742 pre-litigation cases, 4,418 Cheque bounce cases, 3,954 pertaining to accidents and 2,533 of petty nature which can be closed. It is possible to close cases pertaining Revenue, Tax etc. with the co-operation of Government officials.
There are 250 cases of Land Acquisition by MUDA and its Chairman has expressed readiness to resolve them amicably. Government has directed MUDA to settle cases which can be settled by paying compensation up to a maximum of Rs.20 lakh.
Listing the benefits of Lok Adalat settlements, the Judge said the cases can be amicably settled with very less expenses and in quick time. “The directions of Lok Adalat Court in compromised cases has equal importance of a regular Court. Apart from quick disposal, the relationship of clients are also not harmed. No Court fees need to be paid and client can directly participate in the proceedings. In case of amicable settlement of cases, there will be 100 per cent refund of Court fees. Also, there will be no chance of appeal in Higher Courts against the directions of Lok Adalat,” explained Judge Raghunath.
District Legal Services Authority Member-Secretary Devaraj Bhute, Mysore Bar Association President M. Mahadevaswamy and Secretary S. Umesh were present on the occasion.
