Mellifluous violin, vocal recitals at Ganabharathi on Dec.7

Two maestros of Hindustani Classical Music will enthral the connoisseurs of music on Saturday (Dec.7) at Ganabharathi’s Veene Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar at 5.30 pm. 

Pandit Praveen Sheolikar of Bhopal will present violin recital and promising Vidushi of Mysuru Shrimathi Devi will render vocal music. Both these concerts are organised by Gayana Sabha, Mysuru. They will be accompanied by Pandit Udayaraj Karpur on tabla and Sathish Bhat Heggara on harmonium.

Pandit Praveen Sheolikar was born into a family of reputed musicians from Raipur and trained by his grandfather Pt. Rambhau Sheolikar and father Pt. V.R. Sheolikar, a famous violinist of Madhya Pradesh.

It was under the watchful eyes and rigorous training of his father that Pt. Praveen mastered the techniques quickly and then went on to define the gayaki ang with a difference, which culminated into a unique, distinctive style that has touched the hearts of audiences across the globe.

The performances of Pt. Praveen Sheolikar are replete with emotions, bordering almost on spiritual, tranquillising the mind and soul.

A top grade artiste of AIR, Sheolikar has numerous, highly successful performances to his credit throughout the country, as well as abroad. Few of his noted performances include concerts at Elizabeth Hall, London; Rome Music Festival, Italy; Sawai Gandharva Music Festival, Pune; Concerts for Sangeet Natak Academy, Chandigarh; Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Pune, to name a few.

Shrimathi Devi: A well-known vocalist in music circles of the country, Shrimathi Devi started her training at an early age under her mother Girija Bai till she was fortunate enough to be under the guidance of Pandit Chandrashekhar Puranikmath, a renowned vocalist of Gwalior Gharana in Dharwad. Subsequently, Pt. Narayan Pandit, disciple of Pt. Kumar Gandharva, guided for many years and was instrumental in honing her talents. Also received training from Vyasamurthy Katti and Vidushi Padma Talwalkar of Pune.

Presently, Pt. Ravikiran Manipal, a senior disciple of Pt. Narayana Pandit, is imparting advanced training. 

Being a Master’s Degree holder in English Literature, Shrimathi Devi is a graded artiste of AIR. She secured 1st rank in the Alankara examination of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.  She is also recipient of prestigious awards and scholarships from institutions like AIR, Ministry of Culture, Government of India; Sangeetha Nritya Academy and many more.

She has performed extensively in India and abroad.
