May 20, 2019

Mysuru: A group of four men in drunken stupor allegedly assaulted tourists near Shanthala Theatre traffic signal lights yesterday.

The tourists, said to be from Bengaluru, had come in a Tempo Traveller (KA-51-A-1849) and after visiting Chamundi Hill, they were proceeding on Chamaraja Double Road to go to Balamuri. When they stopped at the traffic signal light near Shanthala Theatre, four men in drunken stupor, who were allegedly consuming liquor on the roadside, began to stare at Karthik, the driver of the tourist vehicle.

Karthik, who was distracted by their looks, requested them not to create any problems as there were women and children in the vehicle. Irked over this, the drunk men barged into the vehicle and began to abuse a woman in the vehicle using foul language and also allegedly assaulted her. One Paramesh, who went to her rescue, was assaulted with a beer bottle by them. They later assaulted driver Karthik, it is learnt.

Meanwhile, members of the public informed K.R. Police who rushed to the spot resulting in three of them fleeing from the spot and the Police caught hold of one of them identified as Chandu.

Injured Paramesh and Karthik were admitted to K.R. Hospital and based on the complaint from the tourists, K.R. Police have registered a case.
