Mild tremors were felt at three taluks of Mandya district this morning. Tremors of 3.4 magnitude on Richter scale were felt in Valagerehalli, Maraliga and other villages in Maddur Taluk, Halagur, Malavalli town, Belakawadi, Anchedoddi, Kalakempanadoddi and other villages in Malavalli taluk and Keragodu and surrounding villages in Mandya taluk at around 7.50 am.
Soon as the tremors were felt, shocked villagers came out of their homes. There were reports of wall cracks, rattling of windows and scattering of articles from these villages.
There were also reports on walls of temples located in some of these villages developing cracks. However, there were no reports on any casualties or injuries from the district.
Confirming mild tremors, Malavalli Tahsildar Dinesh Chandra said he would visit the villages to have first-hand information.
Senior Government Geologist Nagabhushan, who also confirmed that mild tremors were felt in some parts of Malavalli, Mandya and Maddur taluk, said that the magnitude of the tremors was low and the areas didn’t record any seismic event.
At Bengaluru
Meanwhile, mild tremors were felt in some parts of Rajarajeshwarinagar and Kengeri areas of Bengaluru between 7.35 am and 7.37 am. The residents of these areas, who were in a state of shock, became active on social networking sites and discussed the unique experience with fear.
Confirming the tremors, G.S. Srinivasa Reddy of Karnataka State National Disaster Monitoring Centre said that the magnitude of the tremors were so low that the Richter scale placed close by these areas didn’t record any seismic event.
Pointing out that the magnitude was less than one on Richter Scale, Reddy said the Centre has passed an alert messages to authorities in Ramanagar.
