Milk powder adulteration case: Mandya Police arrest former MANMUL President

October 6, 2026

Mandya: Mandya District Police have arrested Mandya District Co-operative Milk Union Ltd. (Manmul) former President U.C. Shivakumar, popularly known as Ummadahalli Shivappa, in connection with the alleged milk powder adulteration case.
He was produced before a Court in Maddur which remanded him to judicial custody, the Police said.
Police had issued a notice to Shivakumar five to six days ago and had summoned him to the Maddur Police Station for questioning. His arrest comes amid demands from BJP and JD(S) that the State Government hand over the case to the CBI, with both parties questioning the impartiality of the Karnataka Police investigation.

With the arrest of Shivakumar, the number of arrests has increased to six in the case, where 57 tonnes of skimmed milk powder was found adulterated. However, the prime accused in the case, Manmul Milk Powder Unit chief T. Ramakrishna is still at large.
Those arrested so far include Pradeep Kumar Jadhav, former Purchase Officer; M.C. Shruti, System Operator; Bhaskar; Ravi, a maintenance worker; Srinivas, loading worker and K.N. Srinivasamurthy, former Head of the Unit.
In an audio clip that was said to be of Manmul Purchase Officer Pradeep Kumar Jadhav, he has alleged that Shivakumar too was involved in the case. Thus, Jadhav, who was in judicial custody, was taken into Police custody on Saturday.
When the Police conducted a face-to-face inquiry of Jadhav and Shivakumar on Saturday and Sunday, Jadhav had levelled allegations against Shivakumar.
The unrecovered shortage of 55.5 tonnes of milk powder is estimated to have caused a loss of Rs. 2.8 crore to the Mandya Milk Union.
