Mining around KRS reservoir Vedike padayatra to Bengaluru

November 7, 2018

Mysuru: Members of Kasthuri Karnataka Janapara Vedike will take out padayatra from Mysuru to Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Nov. 9 demanding the Government to completely ban illegal stone quarrying and mining activities around KRS Dam in Mandya district.

They will begin the Padayatra from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at around 10 am and will reach Freedom Park on Nov. 15.

Speaking to reporters at Pathrakarthara Bhavan in city this morning, State Unit President of the Vedike Rameshgowda alleged that some mining operators were still carrying out mining operations illegally though the Mandya District Administration had, a moth back, banned mining, quarrying activities around 20 kilometers of radius of KRS reservoir.

He alleged that the quarry owners were hand-in-glove with Policemen and officials.

The usage of high density explosives and other blasting materials by quarry owners not only threatened the safety of KRS Dam but also pose threat to villagers residing nearby quarry sites.

Rameshgowda said, a memorandum will be submitted to Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy on Nov.15  after meeting him at Vidhana Soudha.
