Minister inaugurates specified category school

November 7, 2017

Mysuru: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait inaugurated a specified category children’s school near the bifurcated Maharaja’s PU College in Nazarbad here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Sait said that the three-storeyed school has been built at a cost of Rs.1.53 crore under the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyaan. Pointing out that the school has been built for specified category children who have been deprived of education, the Minister said that the State Government has funded 60 percent and the Centre 40 percent of the cost.

Noting that the Supreme  Court has left it to the parents on choosing the medium of instruction of their wards, the  Minister said that in this backdrop, the State Government is working towards clearly defining  the medium of instruction and  language.

He said that 66 boys and 34 girl children were currently studying in the school. Stating that English has been introduced as a language from first standard in Kannada medium schools from this year, he said that this has increased admission in Government schools.

Declaring that the Government was collecting details of school drop-outs through ‘Shikshana Kirana’ initiative, Sait said  the Government has launched ‘Guru Chetana’ programme to enhance the quality of teaching in Government schools.

The Minister appealed MP Pratap Simha to exert pressure on the Centre to release more funds for construction and repair of  schools.

The MP, in his address, said that today’s children know how to use smart phones and in that backdrop, the teachers should update their knowledge.
