Mysuru: Department of Public Administration, University of Mysore, had organised a function at the auditorium of Humanities block in Manasagangothri here yesterday to mark the release of the book ‘Jyothiba Phule mattu Samajika Kranti’ written by Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) Prof. Dayanand Mane and Assistant Professor C.L. Somashekar.
Inaugurating the programme, District in-Charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa opined that such books were very relevant and necessary in present time. He advised students to shun groupism based on religion, caste and political affinity and develop a rational thinking.
Speaking on the book, Dr. Priti Srimandarkumar, Director, Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS), said that the book threw light on the then harassment of the people at lower strata of society which necessitated a social revolution.
Journalist Rajashekar Koti, KPSC Member Chandrakanth Shivakeri, Syndicate Members Nanjundaiah, M.S.S. Kumar, Abdul Salam and others were present. Earlier to that, the Minister laid the foundation stone for the installation of a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar near the University Library.
