Minister Suresh Kumar promises to appoint drama teachers

Mysore/Mysuru: A delegation of noted theatre personalities, led by Addanda C. Cariappa, Director of Karnataka’s most coveted theatre repertoire Rangayana, Mysuru, met Primary and Secondary Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar at his residence in Bengaluru and submitted him a memorandum to give priority for the appointment of drama teachers in the coming recruitment drive for the selection of teachers for primary, middle and high school in accordance with the new National Education Policy (NEP) announced by the Government of India.

The delegation consisted of Sandesh Javali of Rangayana, Shivamogga, Prabhakar Joshi from Rangayana, Kalaburagi, Natak Academy Chairman R. Bhimasena and senior theatre personalities like B.V. Rajaram and Prabhudev Kappagal, met the Minister and discussed this matter in detail. BJP MLC Arun Shahpur was also present.

Cariappa said, the previous Governments had appointed drama teachers but most of them have retired. Since then those vacancies have not been filled up. The Rangayana of Mysuru has been conducting one year diploma course under the name of Bharatiya Rangashikshana Kendra, affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad. Thousands of students have done this diploma course. Even Ninasam, Shivakumar Ranga Prayoga Shale of Sanehalli, Ranga Shale of Kundapura and other schools were also offering diploma course in dramatics. The diploma passed students could be considered during the selection to promote art among the students. This will not only help thousands of students but it will also fulfil the aspirations of NEP-2020, he added.

The Minister promised to include the posts of drawing, music and drama in the recruitment notification.
