Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru district will get its first Sainik School with Minister for Primary and Secondary Education B.C. Nagesh scheduled to inaugurate it on Sept.3 at Saragur.
Addressing a press meet at Patrakartara Bhavan here this morning, S. Praveen Kumar, Head-Education, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), said that Minister B.C. Nagesh will inaugurate the Viveka School of Excellence (VSOE) Sainik School at Saragur at 10.30 am in the presence of Swami Bodhamayananda, President of Ramakrishna Mutt, Hyderabad.
Pointing out that VSOE has got approval as a new Sainik School by Sainik School Society (SSS) under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, Praveen Kumar said that this will be the fourth Sainik School of the State after the ones at Vijayapura, Kodagu and Belagavi (Sangolli Rayanna Sainik School).
Noting that VSOE, Saragur, will be the only one for Mysuru district, he said that it is also the first Sainik School in the State to be run by an NGO, while the three others are run by the Government. The School shall have both hostelites and day students, he said.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bagadi Gautham, Kodagu Sainik School Principal Col. G. Kannan, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement Vice-President Dr. Sudheer B. Bangalore, Air Commodore (Retd.) R.N. Jayasimha, Chairman, School Management Committee, VSOE and other dignitaries will be present during the inauguration, he added.
Noting that admission for this academic year (2022-23) is only for sixth standard and is based on a selection test, he said that 60 seats are available, out of which 40 percent (24 seats) will be admitted on an all India selection basis and accordingly, 11 students from across the country have got admitted so far. The academic session will commence from Sept.5, he added.
Praveen Kumar further said that at present, the classes will be run at VSOE classrooms and there are plans to build a new block in the coming years.
