Miscreants steal gold chain on the pretext of helping elderly woman board bus

May 9, 2025

Mysuru: Miscreants, on the pretext of helping an elderly woman board a bus, have stolen a gold chain worn by the woman at Sub-Urban Bus Stand in city recently.

The elderly woman, who lost her 70-gram gold chain is 79-year-old K.S. Rajamma, wife of ex-serviceman Siddanaiah and a resident of Ramakrishnanagar in city.

On Apr. 28, Rajamma and Siddanaiah, who wanted to go to their son’s house in Hassan, came to City Bus Stand in a city bus and took an autorickshaw to Sub-Urban Bus Stand. As they missed the 2.15 pm bus to Hassan, they decided to catch the 3.25 pm Hassan non-stop bus.

When the non-stop bus arrived, a large crowd began to board the bus during which a few people told Siddanaiah to board the bus first and they would help Rajamma. Following their advice, Siddanaiah boarded the bus but did not see his wife board the bus. After a few minutes, when Rajamma boarded the bus, Siddanaiah observed Rajamma’s neck empty and questioned her about the gold chain, to which she replied in negative.

The couple immediately alighted from the bus and went to the Sub-Police Station near the Bus Stand and informed about the gold chain being stolen. The Police, who swung into action immediately, conducted an inspection, received a complaint from Rajamma and helped them board a bus to Hassan. A case has been registered at Lashkar Police Station. Siddanaiah told Star of Mysore that they travelled from City Bus Stand to Sub-Urban Bus Stand in an auto during which the gold chain was there around Rajamma’s neck. Even CCTV footage showed the gold chain around Rajamma’s neck in the bus stand, but it was stolen while boarding the bus, he added.

“When we went to Lashkar Police Station on May 8 to receive a copy of the complaint, a staff said that we may have kept the gold chain somewhere and forgotten about it and asked us to search for it,” Siddanaiah expressed his displeasure.
