Misuse of Rs. 89 lakh funds meant for self employment

Case registered against two staff of Tourism Department

Mysore/Mysuru: Devaraja Police, have registered a case against the First Division Assistant (FDA) and a District Tourism Consultant (DTC) of the Tourism Department on charges of creating fake documents and misusing Rs. 89 lakh funds meant for self employment.

The case has been registered against FDA Abhishek and the then DTC Umesh Naragunda.

Last February, applications were invited from educated unemployed youths (boys and girls) of the district to provide financial assistance of up to Rs. 3 lakh for self employment for which a District Tourism Development Committee meeting, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner was held in July.

 As many as 117 beneficiaries were selected, out of which 78 of them were provided a total financial assistance of Rs. 1.79 crore. 

According to the complaint, Abhishek and Umesh, before the selection process, had mentioned the names of 43 persons, who had not applied for the funds between January and July. They had created fake documents and had even forged the signature of the Department’s Assistant Director Raghavendra, thus  misusing a total of Rs. 89 lakh meant for self employment.

Based on the complaint, Devaraja Police, who have registered a case against Abhishek and Umesh under IPC section 120B, 409, 420, 465 – read with 34, are investigating.
