MLA asks officials to attach oxygen cylinders from industries

May 5, 2021

Nanjangud: Nanjangud MLA B. Harshavardhan has directed officials to take custody of oxygen cylinders stored in industrial units under the Natural  Disaster Management Act.

Speaking to presspersons after visiting Dasoha Bhavan, where a COVID Care Centre has been set up recently, he said that there is severe shortage of oxygen at Taluk Hospital and COVID Care Centre. Expressing concern that empty cylinders were not available for re-filling, Harshavardhan said that industries in Nanjangud, Tandya and Adakanahalli Industrial Areas should be asked to give whatever oxygen cylinders they have.

Pointing out that Nanjangud taluk needs 20 cylinders per day, he said that the Deputy Commissioner has directed officials to treat COVID infected at Taluk Hospital itself and not to send them to Mysuru. Noting that the taluk was lacking in medical specialists, trained and qualified nurses, he said that he will appeal the DC not to issue such instructions. He further said that with rising COVID cases in the taluk, measures have been taken for converting Muddahalli and Hura residential schools in the taluk as COVID Care Centres. Also, all arrangements have been made in the Dasoha Bhavan for supply of food to COVID Care Centres, he added.

Meanwhile, the taluk administration on Monday seized 29 oxygen cylinders from different industrial units of the taluk, under the Natural Disaster Management Act.
