Says Government will function capably if the Opposition is strong
Mysore/Mysuru: Continuing his tirade against Opposition Leader and former Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, BJP MLC A.H. Vishwanath wondered why Siddharamaiah lost from Chamundeshwari Assembly segment by a huge margin in the 2018 Assembly polls, if he had done excellent work during his five-year tenure as the Chief Minister from 2013 to 2018.
Speaking to press persons here on Sunday, Vishwanath, in a retort to Siddharamaiah’s allegation that the BJP Government in the State had failed in tackling floods that has ravaged the State, questioned why the Congress was not returned to power in the 2018 Assembly polls if Siddharamaiah had performed well as the Chief Minister.
Maintaining that the people were watching the words of political leaders closely, Vishwanath contended that as the Opposition Leader in the Assembly, Siddharamaiah, should have control over his remarks.
Observing that the Government will function capably if the Opposition is strong, he took strong objection to the Opposition Leader’s remark on BJP MPs of the State.
Replying to a question on whether he was keeping away from District Minister S.T. Somashekar, he said that the District Minister was taking everyone into confidence and it is wrong to say that there is a lack of co-ordination between him and Somashekar.
Replying to another question whether the illumination of city, that is drawing huge crowds, does not lead to a spike in COVID-19 pandemic, he said that though the District Administration, fearing Corona spread, had enforced a ban on tourist spots during Dasara, the Government withdrew the ban as some Legislators exerted pressure.
Responding to a query on who should be held responsible if there is spurt of COVID-19 during Dasara, the MLC said that the officials, people representatives and all others have to take the blame if the deadly pandemic spreads.
Stressing on the need for everyone to understand the seriousness of the disease, that has also taken the lives of many Ministers and Legislators across the country, he said that the ban on entry to tourist spots was relaxed with an intention of saving small businessmen and the tourism industry, which had touched rock-bottom during lockdown.
Pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra ‘Life first, Living Later’ should be understood by everyone, he said that Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has taken much measures for tackling COVID-19.
