Mysore/Mysuru: As the second wave of COVID attack continues to cause untold havoc, JD(S) MLC Marithibbegowda has suggested the Government to conduct a one-day exam for SSLC and Second PU students on different dates, by setting Multi-choice question papers on the lines of CET (Common Entrance Test).
In a press release, Marithibbegowda, who represents South Teachers Constituency in the Legislative Council, said that the possible outbreak of the third wave of COVID-19 attack in the coming months is expected to target children and teenaged youths the more. Under such a situation, the Government should not conduct the exams on usual basis that extends over weeks. Also, evaluation of answer scripts will be a huge risk in these trying circumstances.
As such, the Government should seriously consider the safety, health and well-being of students, teachers and all other school staff and should think about conducting one-day exam for SSLC and Second PU students, he observed.
Giving tips on setting of question papers for the one-day exam, the MLC said that the authorities can set question papers containing Multiple-choice questions in full, say 40 marks for each subject for SSLC and multiple-choice questions for 50 marks (including practicals wherever applicable) for each subject for second PU.
Noting that the question papers can be modelled on the State’s CET (Common Entrance Test for admission to Professional courses like Engineering, Architecture, Pharmacy, Agriculture etc.,) exam papers, he said that the exams can be conducted on a single day in two sessions, just like the CET
Explaining the advantages of this type of exam under these trying times, Marithibbegowda said that the Education Minister can hold virtual meetings with all stake holders, including students, teachers, college staff, educational experts, Legislators and Department officials, before deciding on the model of question papers for the one-day exam which he (Marithibbegowda) has advocated.
