MLC urges Government to permit aided institutions to fill up teacher vacancies

June 19, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: MLC Marithibbegowda has urged the Government to permit  aided  educational institutions to fill up vacant teacher posts.

In a press release, Marithibbegowda, who represents South Teachers Constituency in the Legislative Council, said that he has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa in this regard.

Pointing out that the Government had allowed aided educational institutions to fill up teacher posts lying vacant as on the year 2015, he said that now the Government has put on hold the permission, citing financial constraints in the wake of COVID-19 crisis.

Stating that the Education Department, taking note of the plight of lowly paid teachers in schools, had sent a proposal to the Government seeking permission for aided institutions to recruit teachers for filling up vacancies caused by retirement, death, resignation and such other reasons, he said that now the Finance Department has issued a circular mentioning that the permission for appointment has been withdrawn due to the economic crisis driven by COVID-19.

Maintaining that several teachers were working silently for years in aided institutions with the hope that they would get Government benefits in the near future, the MLC wanted the Finance Department to withdraw the circular and give permission for teacher recruitment in aided schools. He warned of staging a demonstration along with fellow MLCs if the Government ignored his plea.
