MLC’s plea to remove anomalies in promotion of Asst. Teachers

August 28, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: A dharna was held at the Commissioner’s Office of Department of Public Instruction in Bengaluru on Tuesday demanding promotion to Assistant Teachers of Mysuru region. The protest was held under the leadership of MLC Marithibbegowda.

Apart from the issue of promotion of Assistant Teachers of Mysuru region, the protesters were demanding the Government to address their various pending demands. They alleged that Grade-2 Assistant Teachers have been denied promotion as Head Teachers since the last four years.

For direct recruitment of head teachers, 25 percent posts must be reserved and 75 percent of the posts must be reserved for promoted Assistant Teachers. All the anomalies in the recruitment process must be set right, they demanded. All unaided school managements must be directed to pay honorarium to teachers and non-teaching staff and the Government must identify such staff and pay them their dues, they urged. They also demanded that the Government must pay the dues under Right To Education (RTE) for the academic year 2019-2020 and must stop the practice of unscientifically cutting the aid.

The protesters also demanded that when the schools begin, the managements must be permitted to purchase books and other equipment in phases and according to the number of students admitted.

Commissioner of Public Instruction arrived at the dharna spot and accepted the memorandum submitted by the protesters. They warned that they will be forced to sit on a satyagraha on Sept. 3 in front of Primary and Secondary Education Minister’s house if the Government does not consider their demands by Sept. 2. MLCs K.T. Srikantegowda, Bhojegowda, Ramesh Gowda and former MLC Puttanna Chowda Reddy and others were present.
