Moonlight Music concert on Oct. 5: Vidu. Mahalaxmi Shenoy to perform at Suttur Mutt

Mysuru: A vocal recital by Vidu. Mahalaxmi Shenoy has been organised in the Suttur Mutt premises at the foot of Chamundi Hill on Oct. 5 at 6 pm as part of Moonlight Music Concert-192. She will be accompanied by Satish Kolli on harmonium and Pt. Bhimashankar Bidanur on tabla.

Artistes’ profile

Mahalaxmi Shenoy is a child prodigy hailing from Karkala in Udupi district. She has received blessings from Sri Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji of Sri Kashi Mutt for her rendition of Bhajans at the tender age of three-and-a-half. Studied Karnatak Vocal initially for five years from late Vidwan Vyasakrishna Upadhyaya of Karkala.

Since 1999 she is learning Hindustani vocal music from Grammy Award Winner Mohan Veena Artiste Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt of Jaipur. With rigorous training under the maestro’s valuable guidance coupled with committed practice, she has become his foremost vocal disciple.

She has ‘Sangeet Visharad’ from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharv Mahavidyalaya Mandal.

She has given over 1,200 concerts across India and abroad. Her music has been liked by many musicians, music critics as well as by the common audience.

In academics, she is BA (English Major, Journalism and Psychology) and MSW and MS in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Kuvempu University, Shivamogga.

Satish Kolli is the disciple of Pt. M.G. Patavardhan of Dharwad. A B-High Grade artiste of AIR in harmonium recital, he has performed at various music concerts across India beside showcasing his talent at America and Canada.

Pt. Bhimshankar Bidanur learnt tabla at Padma Bhushan Dr. Pt. Puttaraja Gawai’s Veereshwara Punyashrama. He has given tabla support to many music scholars.
