More booths to be opened to collect penalties: Police

Mysuru – In response to the action plan to collect pending penalties of Rs. 642,09,76,200 sought by Principal District and Sessions Court Judge K.N. Usharani, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi said that Police officials are creating awareness at the taluk level as part of the drive.

He said, information is also being disseminated through the ‘Mane Mane Police’ programme, Police beats and social media platforms.

He added that vehicle owners can voluntarily check their pending traffic fines, while Police teams are also taking action to recover dues from habitual offenders and those deliberately avoiding payment by tracing them.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) K.S. Sundar Raj said that during 2025, when a 50 percent rebate was earlier announced, a total of Rs. 53.5 crore in pending fines was collected in two phases.

He further informed that arrangements are being made to facilitate collections at 18 Civil Police Stations and five Traffic Police Stations. Additional counters will be opened if required to manage public rush during the rebate period.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police also told the meeting that in the previous year, the City Police ranked second in the State in the collection of pending traffic fines, with a total recovery of Rs. 53.5 crore.
