Mother-daughter burnt alive as hut catches fire

July 5, 2019

Chamarajanagar: A mother and her daughter were burnt alive when their hut caught fire at Mallanaguli village in Talawadi taluk in Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border yesterday morning.

The deceased are Rajamma (40) and her daughter  Geetha (19).

Rajamma’s husband had died about 10 years back and she was living with her son and daughter in the hut. It is learnt that her son had migrated to Kerala about a month back and hence Rajamma was living with her daughter.

Yesterday at about 9 am, the hut caught fire and as the hut was small, the flames spread soon and the two unable to come out were burnt alive. The post-mortem of the two bodies could not be conducted as the bodies were reduced to ashes.

Talawadi Police, who visited the spot, conducted preliminary investigation and have registered a case. It is yet to be ascertained as to how the hut caught fire and why Rajamma and Geetha did not run out of the hut as soon as the fire broke out.
