Motivational talks and felicitation programmes marked Women’s Day celebrations across the city yesterday.
Observing that one should grab every opportunity that comes before him/her, Probationary IAS Officer Subha Kalyan has called upon women to realise their dreams by reading the achievements of great personalities.
She was speaking at the Women’s Day celebration organised by the DoS in Economics and Co-operation, University of Mysore (UoM), at Journalism and Communication Hall, Manasagangothri here yesterday.
Pointing out that hardwork, dedication, concentration and perseverance is crucial for achieving great things in life, Subha said that it was important to develop focus and dedication right from childhood days.
Stating that maintaining self-respect is very important in this modern era, she called upon the women fraternity to contribute their mite for building a wonderful society.
Noting that one’s future lies in his/her hardwork and achieving specific aims and objectives, she exhorted the women to exhibit their talents and skills in their respective field so that the world recognises them.

At Maharani’s Arts College
Regretting that women are often seen as an object of desire in a male-dominated society, Dr. Swarnamala Sirsi, faculty of the Department of Physics, Yuvaraja’s College (autonomous), said that it was high time to end gender disparity at a time when women leaders are making news across the globe.
She was speaking after inaugurating International Women’s Day organised by Maharani’s Arts College in association with Mahila Dourjanya Vicharana Samiti, Samskruthika Vedike, Abhivyakti Vedike and Maharani Alumni Association, at the College premises on JLB Road here yesterday.
Stressing on the need for urgent measures to end gender disparity, she said that women have become competent to handle any tasks assigned to them, through hardwork and dedication.
Calling for more opportunities for women to showcase their genuine talent, she asked women fraternity not to back away from the challenges that may come in their chosen profession.
Jayalakshmamma, a natural farming advocate from Chikkarale in K.R. Pet taluk and Sushma, a social worker working with Samaja Seva Trust, were felicitated on the occasion.
Dr. Madhuvana Shankar of the University of Mysore’s Hemagangotri, Hassan, Maharani’s Commerce and Management College Principal Dr. Annegowda, Maharani’s Science College Principal Dr. A.
