Mysuru/Bengaluru: Taking strong objection to the spectacle of eating beef in public view at a function held in a government building to protest against the Central Government’s decision against beef- eating in public, by a group of people led by University of Mysore Professor Mahesh Chandra Guru, retired Professor K.S. Bhagawan and others, MP Shobha Karandlaje has written a letter dated 26th June, 2017, to the Governor-Chancellor, to take action against these beef- eaters.
It may be recalled that on June 25, at a function jointly organised by Charvaka Social and Cultural Trust and surprisingly by Kannada and Culture Department, some of the members including Prof. Guru and Prof. Bhagawan had consumed beef by way of protest.
In the letter (a copy of which is available with Star of Mysore), Shobha Karandlaje has said, “In the above mentioned event, Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru delivered a speech in which he abused and criticised Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi as well as the Union Government on the issue of ban on cow slaughter. This despicable conduct of Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru is a clear violation of the Conduct and Service Rules.
I request you to kindly look into the matter and initiate action against Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru in order to ensure that the tendency to violate rules with impunity and take people in high positions is curbed.”
She has also requested the Governor to sack Prof. Guru for speaking against the Prime Minister and the Union Government.
