Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar said that the annual World Environment Day is being celebrated today for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
He was speaking after inaugurating the World Environment Day-2025 celebration organised by CSIR-CFTRI (Central Food Technological Research Institute) at IFTTC Auditorium in CFTRI campus here this morning.
Pointing out that the Day has been a platform for creating awareness on environmental issues such as marine pollution, over population, global warming, sustainable development etc., Yaduveer said that the theme for this year is “Putting an end to plastic pollution.” The day is also celebrated with discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment, he added.
Noting that the cleanliness survey of the city has been done under ‘Swachh Survekshan-2025,’ he stressed on the need for ending plastic pollution in keeping with this year’s Environment Day theme. Maintaining that there were several outlined guidelines for the conduct of the survey, he called upon the people to realise the dreams of PM Modi in making India a truly clean and tidy country in keeping with ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign.
MP Yaduveer also inaugurated Pune-based TEFF’s (The Eco-factory Foundation) ‘Shashwat Bharat Setu’ Centre, a Winning Net Zero experience zone launched in Karnataka in Kannada language and CFTRI Platinum Jubilee Garden ‘Amritavana’ on the occasion.
Anand Chordia, Founder of TEFF, in his address, highlighted various concepts like ‘Waste to wealth, water management, energy conservation, how to reduce carbon footprint, importance of circular economy, achieving sustainability in rural, urban, industrial and individual sectors and how to become Net Zero at large.

Pointing out that the Shashwat Bharat Setu has touched upon very crucial points that will revitalise our environment, Chordia said it exemplifies the concept of ‘waste to wealth’ besides providing sustainable solutions that not only benefit the environment, but also to create livelihood opportunities for communities. He expressed confidence that the Centre would inspire the nation to contribute in making India a Net Zero country.
A three-day Sashwat Bharat Setu Winning Net Zero Exhibition (June 5-7) has been organised at the venue as part of World Environment Day. The expo features immersive exhibits on sustainability, lifestyle changes, climate action etc,.
