Murderous attack: Sait unhappy over Police probe

Mysore/Mysuru: Expressing unhappiness over the pace of investigation on the murderous assault on him on the night of Nov. 17, 2019 at a marriage function, Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait has said that Special Investigation Team (SIT) must be formed to prevent attacks on VIPs.

“The attack took place on me on November 2019 and this is January 2020 but the assault case is still shrouded in mystery. Questions like who was behind the attack and what was the purpose still remain unanswered,” he said speaking to reporters at his house yesterday.

Though the Police had formed an SIT at their level, the investigation has not made much headway and the accused have been granted bail. “Neither the Government nor the Police have given out any information on the assault case. The Government has failed to prevent such attacks on VIPs and politicians,” he rued.

Not hiding his displeasure on Police investigation, Sait said, “If the accused can get bail in such a serious case, we can assume how the Police have investigated the case and what type of evidence did the investigating officer submit to the Court of law. This is anybody’s guess,” he added.

The MLA further said that the Government cannot wash its hands off after giving a gunman and Police security.

“We cannot go with gunman and security everywhere and during all times. The Government must ensure that such attacks do not take place. Efficient SITs must be formed to prevent such attacks in the future and the SIT itself will be a deterrent. I have already discussed the issue with the Home Minister,” the MLA added.

“Even MP Tejasvi Surya has got death threats. First of all, politics stinks and now death threat hangs over politicians’ heads like a Damocles’ Sword. In this situation, will youngsters enter politics? They are in two minds. A conducive atmosphere must be made for honest youths to enter politics,” Sait said.

Mayoral polls

On Mayoral election, the MLA said that the existing alliance between Congress and JD(S) in the Mysuru City Corporation would continue. “I have already spoken to State JD(S) President and former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy. K.R. Nagar MLA S.R. Mahesh has taken the responsibility and he has not reacted as he is indisposed. I will discuss the issue with him in another two to three days,” Sait added.
