Museum is not only a power, it is a world power: Prof. N.S Rangaraju

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of International Museum Day- 2022, under the International Council of Museums (ICOM) theme ‘The Power of Museums,’ the Anthropological Survey of India, Southern Regional Centre (SRC), had organised a Museum Popular Lecture at its premises in Bogadi here on Wednesday.

Prof. N.S Rangaraju, retired Professor from Department of Ancient History and Archaeology, University of Mysore, who is also a Member of Heritage Conservation Committee, Government of Karnataka and Convener of INTACH, Mysuru Chapter, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp along with Dr. Mithun Sikdar, Head of Office, SRC.

Delivering the Museum Day lecture, Prof. Rangaraju, who has played a vital role in developing and protecting museums and many heritage sites, said that Museum is not only a power, it is a world power.

He shared his 40 years of experience in preservation, restoration and development of archaeological sites, monuments, temples and many old museums in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

 After the lecture, the present research scholars from Department of Anthropology, University of Mysore and Central University of Hyderabad discussed their conceptual clarities related to the topic.

R. Manjunath, Director of Mysore Airport, was also present along with invitee from IGRMS, SRC.Dr. Mithun Sikdar, Head of Office, SRC, welcomed. Banita Behera, Assistant Keeper, gave  introduction to the lecture. P. Dalibandhu, Assistant  Anthropologist, proposed a vote of thanks. The overall programme was coordinated by Banita Behera.
