Music Varsity to have Chair on Adivasi Arts Studies

Mysore/Mysuru: The city-based KSGH Music and Performing Arts University has decided to establish a Chair for Adivasi Arts Studies.

Announcing this to presspersons here yesterday, Music University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nagesh V. Bettakote said that the University is making efforts to carry out research in Tribal Arts and the establishment of the Chair is a major step in this regard. Pointing out that the Chair will work for saving tribal arts which are on the brink of extinction by imparting education and conducting research, he said that the Music Varsity has joined hands for Adivasi Dance Festival in city in this direction.

Noting that the basis of all forms of our arts is tribal culture, he stressed on the need for saving tribal arts and said that tribal arts are dedicated to tribal Gods and as such they have special significance. Music University has also planned to bring out a handbook on Adivasi culture.
