Mysuru: A one-day training programme on  ‘Gender Sensitisation’ for University of Mysore (UoM) employees was held at Senate Bhavan, Manasagangothri this morning.

The event was jointly held by Women Studies Centre, UoM and UoM women employees.

Presiding over the programme, UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar highlighted on the need for maintaining gender equality in all fields.

Pointing out that today women are no more limited to home and domestic duties, the VC said that women are participating in greater numbers in several key sectors and different fields such as research, politics, science and technology, medicine etc.

Stressing on the need for ending gender discrimination, he stated that women should be given equal respect and the issue of gender equality was being discussed more these days.

Earlier, Karnataka Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Padma Shekar inaugurated the  training programme.

She also released a souvenir titled ‘Janapada Mahilayaana’ brought out by the Women Studies Centre on the occasion.

UoM Registrar Prof. Lingaraja Gandhi was the chief guest.

Prof. Preethi Srimandhar Kumar, Director, Women Studies Centre, UoM faculty Prof. Cherry Arokyaswamy, Prof. Jayalakshmi Seethapura and others were present. Gururaj from Bengaluru, Sumitra Acharya, Faculty, School of Law, Bengaluru, Dr. Christina Kantharaj, Advisor, ATI, Mysuru were the resource persons.
