The Academic Council of University of Mysore has rejected the request of B.N. Bahadur Foundation to hand over Bahadur Institute of Management Studies (BIMS) building at Manasagangothri to start it own management course.
The Academic Council, which met at the Crawford Hall this morning, discussed the matter referred by the Varsity Syndicate.
The Foundation, which had donated Rs. 2.5 crore for the construction of BIMS at Manasagangothri, had requested the University to hand over the building as it wanted to start it own management course and also asked the University to shift its course elsewhere.
University Acting VC Prof. Dayanand Mane rejected the request stating that it would lead to a bad precedent and requested the Council to refer the matter back to the Syndicate.
Later, the Council approved the proposal to provide Ph.D candidates to apply for revaluation and challenge valuation of their entrance exam answer scripts. The University had received many complaints from students suspecting the seriousness in correcting the scripts.
With respect to St. Philomena’s College’s request to approve admissions to MA (English) course, the Council decided to refer the matter to UGC as the college had relaxed few rules to admit the candidates into the course without seeking University’s approval.
Later, University Finance Officer Mahadevappa presented a deficit budget of Rs. 2.53 crore for the year 2016-17. In the budget, the University shows Rs. 258.86 crore towards receipts and Rs. 260.86 crore towards payments.
University Registrar Prof. R. Rajanna, Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. J. Somashekar and others officials were present.
