PM Modi inaugurates Rs. 3,300 crore OSAT facility at Sanand, Gujarat

Sanand (Gujarat): Kaynes Technology, a Mysuru-based electronic design and manufacturing company (Kaynes Semicon), has begun commercial production at its semiconductor OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) Plant in Sanand, Gujarat, following its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Mar. 31.

The facility will manufacture advanced intelligent power modules for automotive and industrial applications. Built with an investment of about Rs. 3,300 crore, the Plant is expected to produce nearly 60 lakh chips per day, significantly boosting domestic semiconductor manufacturing and supporting local economic development.

Congratulating the leadership of Kaynes Technology, the Gujarat Government and the workforce at the Plant, the Prime Minister said, he was proud that an Indian company had entered the semiconductor chip manufacturing space.

Stating that Kaynes has become part of global semiconductor supply chain, he said, “This is a wonderful beginning. In the coming days, many Indian companies, through global collaboration, will give the world a resilient semiconductor supply chain.”

Calling the milestone a reflection of the ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ vision, Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that the Sanand facility will supply intelligent power modules to a California-based company, with a significant portion of its output already booked for export.

Sanand and Silicon Valley

“A new bridge has been built between Sanand and Silicon Valley,” Modi said, adding that the modules produced in Sanand will power companies across the world. Referring to global challenges in recent years, including the pandemic and geopolitical conflicts, the PM said that supply chains, particularly for semiconductors, rare-earth minerals and energy, had faced major disruptions.

“A democratic country like India moving forward in this direction is crucial for the development of the entire world,” he said.

The Plant operates as an OSAT/ATMP unit, focusing on assembly, testing, marking and packaging of semiconductor components. It aims to address a key gap in India’s semiconductor ecosystem, especially in backend manufacturing.

The facility will produce modules comprising 17 chips and supply them to Alpha and Omega Semiconductor, a global power semiconductor company. Once all phases are completed, the Plant will have a production capacity of 6.33 million units per day.

Officials said, the Plant will support applications that require compact, efficient power systems, particularly in the automotive and industrial sectors. It is also expected to strengthen India’s high-technology manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on imports.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi, Kaynes Technology Promoter & Chairperson Savitha Ramesh, Promoter & Executive Vice-Chairman Ramesh Kunhikannan and others were present on the occasion.
