Mysuru Division emerges Overall Champions

Mysuru Division helped by excellent performances by the athletes in the men’s and women’s sections and in the team events, won the overall championship with a total of 225 points, on the concluding day of the State Level Dasara Games 2017, conducted by the Dept. of Youth Empowerment & Sports (DYES), Government of Karnataka and Dasara Sports Committee at the Chamundivihar Stadium, here yesterday.

Mysuru Division hogged the limelight in the athletic events overall men & women with 120 points (56 in men & 64 in women), while Bengaluru City came a close second with 114 points (54 in men & 60 in women). On the final day of track and field events, new meet record was set by local girl Shahajhani who bettered her own mark (45.77mts-2016) with a new meet record of 46.25m.

A total of 5 new meet records were set in the championships (3 in the men’s section and two in the women’s section). Manish of Mysuru Division (two golds-100m & 200m) won the Individual title in the men’s section, while two athletes Prajna S. Prakash (Bengaluru City-100m & 100m Hurdles) and Navami (Mysuru Division-200m & 400m) shared the Individual championship title in the women’s section.

Govinda Singh of MRC, Wellington, won the 21.1km half-marathon race with a timing of 1hr:07.09s. Parvesh of Bengaluru took the silver with a timing of 1hr.08.02s, while Nagesh Pawar of Bijapur finished third with a timing of 1hr:08.23s.

Akshitha of Davanagere won the first place in the 21.1km half-marathon for women with a timing of 1hr:25.02s. Mamatha of Bengaluru finished second (1hr:27.22s) while T. Kavana of Mysuru secured the third place (1hr:36.03s).

Discus: Vivek Adiga (Mysuru Division, 42.77m). Shot Put: Atish Gagaaraj (Mysuru Division, 15.36m). Team Championship: Men: Mysuru Division-56 points. Individual Champion: Manish (Mysuru Division-10 points).

Women: 200m: Navami (Mysuru Division, 24.10s). 3000m: Chaitra Devadiga (Mysuru Division, 11:16.8s). Javelin Throw: Shahajhani (NMR-46.25m- Old-45.77m-2016). Triple Jump: B.N. Thungashree (Mysuru Division, 11.80m).
