Mysuru is home for many renowned writers: MLA

Karnataka Ursu Mahamandali Charitable Trust holds Kannada Rajyotsava and Ursu Yuvajanotsava

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that Mysuru is known for its Palaces and rich heritage, Krishnaraja (KR) MLA T.S. Srivatsa said that Mysuru also has the distinction of being the home for renowned writers such as Rashtrakavi Kuvempu, Saraswathi Samman awardee Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa, Chaduranga (Subramanyaraje Urs) and T.N. Srikantaiah (Tee.Nam.Shri).

He was speaking at the Kannada Rajyotsava and Ursu Yuvajanotsava organised by Karnataka Ursu Mahamandali Charitable Trust (KUMCT) at RamaGovinda Rangamandira in Ramakrishnanagar here on Sunday.

Stating that former Chief Minister late D. Devaraj Urs should be honoured for naming the State as Karnataka, the MLA offered his services to help the community.

Earlier, former Kuvempu Bhasha Bharathi Chairman Dr. Pradhan Gurudatta, who spoke after inaugurating the programme, recalled the contributions made by the erstwhile Mysore rulers, especially Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and Jayachamaraja Wadiyar to Kannada language and the State.

Pointing out that it is befitting for the Ursu Mahamandali to remember them, he said that it was D. Devaraj Urs who named the State as Karnataka State 50 years ago and also made Kannada the official language of the State. Praising the Ursu community for their affection towards the people and leadership qualities, he advised the community to lead the society.

Founder of Mysuru Book Clubs and Mysuru Literary Forum Charitable Trust Shubha Sanjay Urs wanted the community members to become Legislators.

Community member Adarsh B. Urs and his father Basavaraje Urs donated Rs. 1 lakh each to the KUMCT.

Three needy students were distributed scholarships of Rs. 30,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 5,000. A quiz was conducted for youths on the occasion.

KUMCT Hon. President M.L. Basavaraje Urs, President B.S. Sridhara Raje Urs, Lion Dr. Ramaraje Urs, Adarsh B. Urs, Dr. M.G.R. Urs, HMT Lingaraje Urs and others were present.
