Mysuru origin US doctor distributes scholarships to students

Mysuru:  Sri Hulagadri Trust had organised a programme at the NIE Diamond Jubilee Sports Complex on Manandavadi Road here this morning for the distribution of  T.V. Alamelu Memorial Scholarships to meritorious students, instituted by Dr. Meera V. Nathan, a renowned doctor from USA hailing from Mysuru.

Scholarship were given to about 600 students.

Retried Director, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute Dr. Geetha K. Avadhani, inaugurating the programme, commended Dr. Meera, who graduated in Mysuru, for the philanthropic gesture in encouraging students to pursue career.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Pratap Simha observed that the youth today treat movie stars as their icons and not sports persons. He disclosed that Yuva Dasara would be inaugurated by World Badminton Champion P.V. Sindhu to give due credit to achieving sports persons instead of traditional inauguration by film artistes. He contended that the credit of tourist attraction to city should go to the Maharajas basically as they kept art and culture at supreme place coupled with good planning. He also paid rich tributes to Sir M. Visvesvaraya, today being Sir MV’s birth anniversary commemorated as Engineers Day.

The MP further said that it is proposed to establish a Multipurpose Studio in city on the lines of Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad and also a Logistics Park.

MLA U.B. Venkatesh, Adarsha Seva Sangha President and Hulagadri Trust Managing Trustee G.R. Nagaraj, Honorary Secretary R. Ramakrishna, former NIE Professor K.S. Chandrashekar, Dr. Meera V. Nathan and others were present.
