Mysuru Sitar Sambhrama strikes a chord

Mysore/Mysuru: The musical rendition of popular folk song ‘Sojugada Sooju Mallige…’ by over 50 sitar artistes, set a devotional mood among the music connoisseurs, during Mysuru Sitar Sambhrama, organised by Kala Samvahana Trust, at Kalamandira in the city recently.

The programme was organised to commemorate the first anniversary of Sitar training programme being conducted in the city, by internationally renowned Sitar exponent Ustad Dr. Mohsin Khan, the seventh generation artiste of Sitar gharana of Dharwad.

The Sinchana Troupe of artistes recited in Yaman Raga from Hindustani classical music, in precision, to the applause of the audience. The troupe included Harshit, Gowri, Gowri Prabhakar, Manasa, Dr. K.M.  Archana, Dr. S.L. Raveendra, Muralidhar Acharya and C.N. Madan to name a few among the artistes.

The artistes were accompanied by Ustad Nisar Ahmed, Pandit Keshav Joshi and Charudutt Maharaj on tabla, Pandit Veerabhadraiah Hiremath on harmonium, Pandit Chinmaya Namannavar on violin, Rudresh Bhajantri on shehnai, Manu Rao on keyboard and Sujayendra Rao on rhythm.

The concert of renowned Hindustani vocalist Padma Shri Pandit Venkatesh Kumar and Sitar recital by Dr. Mohsin Khan, cast a spell on the audience.

Earlier, noted Sugama Sangeetha artiste H.R. Leelavathi, who inaugurated the programme said, ‘Mysuru is home of artistes, with music enjoying patronage since the days of Maharajas’. It is in fact, a no mere achievement, as a large number of children have been trained in Sitar in a short span of one year. Wish the efforts of Dr. Mohsin Khan, reap rich dividends, she added.
