Software employees say no to trains; Prefer direct buses via NICE Road for Mysuru-Bengaluru commute

Mysuru: Mysuru-based software professionals are urging the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to launch direct daily bus services from Mysuru to Bengaluru’s Electronics City.

With most tech employees now on hybrid work schedules — two days in the office and three at home — they endure the inconvenience of getting off at Deepanjalinagar’s Satellite Bus Stand, then navigating through multiple Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses to Majestic, Silk Board, Bommanahalli and finally, Electronics City. The long and fragmented commute is a constant struggle.

While the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is still dragging its feet on opening the Yellow Line of Namma Metro, which would link Rashtreeya Vidyalaya (RV) Road to Bommasandra via Jayadeva Hospital, Central Silk Board and Electronics City, the current traffic situation is chaotic. The congestion near Silk Board and Electronics City junctions is so severe that even professionals leaving Mysuru at 5 am can’t reach their offices on time.

While several trains travel to Bengaluru daily, techies prefer KSRTC buses as they can log in and work during the journey. Travelling by train during peak morning hours is challenging, with many passengers, including Government employees, crowding the coaches, often forcing techies to stand throughout the trip. Additionally, trains are occasionally halted for extended periods at outer signals, causing further inconvenience.

Deploying direct buses from Mysuru would ease the commute for techies and others, helping them bypass Bengaluru’s traffic congestion and reach Electronics City via the NICE Road.

“A considerable number of people commute from Mysuru to Electronics City. We have already conducted a demand survey and created a WhatsApp group where many have confirmed the need for direct buses. This information has been conveyed to the KSRTC Divisional Controller via e-mail,” said Yogendra, a Mysuru resident.

Proposal currently under review

We have received multiple requests to operate direct buses to Electronics City, and the proposal is currently under review. However, providing daily direct buses to this location is not feasible as the Corporation would face losses with only a small number of passengers. We are open to extending the service if at least 50 passengers consistently travel each day. A demand survey has been requested, and until then, we can offer a one-way service from Mysuru to Electronics City on Mondays and a return service on Fridays.”
