Mysuru veteran TT player emerges Champion

In the Mandakini Memorial Veterans Table Tennis (TT) Championship held on Nov. 13 and 14 at Malleswaram Club in Bengaluru under KVTTC, Mysuru’s Dr. Sainath Iyer plucked gold in 75-plus age group, Men Singles event.

In a five players league, Dr. Sainath Iyer beat B.R. Mallikarjunaiah, Prabhakar, Kabra and M.A. Krishnaswamy to become Champion and bring credit to Mysuru.

M.N. Raghavendra and K.L. Sridhar, both from Mysuru, combined well to take one of the semi-final berth in 60+ Open Doubles event.

40+: Champion – C.R. Satyajit; Runner-up – Harpreet Singh; Semi-finalists – S.V. Harish/Royston.

50+: Champion – M.K. Shivkumar; Runner-up – D.P. Gopinath; Semi-finalists – S.S. Sundeep/ K. Chandrashekar.

60+: Champion – Shiva Honnaiah; Runner-up – C.S. Jagdish; Semi-finalists – M.N. Raghavendra/ K.L. Sridhar (Mysuru).

65+: Champion – Vishu Botta; Runner-up – S. Srishaila; Semi-finalists – Mahesh Nayak/ R. Prasad.

70+: Champion – C.R. Lakshminarayana; Runner-up – Udayashankar Rao.

75+: Champion – Dr. Sainath Iyer (Mysuru); Runner-up – B.R. Mallikarjunaiah.

80+: Champion – S. Gopalan; Runner-up – K. Satyanarayana.

WOMEN

40+ & 50+: Champion – Deepthi Kambhat; Runner-up – Anmona Baruwa; Semi-finalists – H. Bhavana/ J. Mamatha.

60+: Champion – Premee; Runner-up – V. Nagarathna; Semi-finalists – Poornima/ Sushila Pillay.

OPEN DOUBLES

40+/ 50+: Champions – C.R. Satyajit/ Kiran Kumar; Runners-up – M.K. Shivakumar/Gopinath; Semi-finalists – U.N. Ram Kumar/ Subramanya and Ravindra Hemmad/ Jagdish Bidarkoti.

60+ & Above: 40+/ 50+: Champions – Vishu Botta/ S. Srishaila; Runners-up – Mahesh Nayak/ Kuppu Rao; Semi-finalists – K.L. Sridhar/ R. Raghavendra and R. Prasad/ C.S. Jagdish.

The tournament was sponsored by Mandakini’s family. Mandakini was a veteran TT player of Karnataka who died and the Memorial event is being held annually. Veteran TT players are trying to promote more Veteran TT players to play Vet TT State Tournaments. The veteran group requests people to share this information with any male or female TT player (above 40 years) to join the State Veteran events. They will have a chance to play for Karnataka in National Veteran Championship.
