Mysuru’s Preeth Appaiah to summit Mt. Kosciuszko on Aug. 15

Mysuru: Mysuru’s mountaineer Jammada Preeth Appaiah, a resident of Bannimantap, will be scaling Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia to celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day on Aug. 15.

Mount Kosciuszko is the highest mountain of mainland Australia, at 2,228 metres (7,310 ft) above sea level. It is located on the Main Range of the Snowy Mountains in Kosciuszko National Park, a part of the Australian Alps National Parks and Reserves, in New South Wales, and is located west of Crackenback and close to Jindabyne, near the border with Victoria.

Preeth Appaiah will be hoisting the National Tricolor along with Karnataka and Kodagu flags on reaching the peak of Mt. Kosciuszko. Preeth Appaiah, who has also won many accolades in master’s shooting competition, has successfully scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,340ft), Africa’s highest peak and the tallest free-standing mountain during March, 2023 and Mt Elbrus (18,510 ft), the tallest mountain in Russia and Europe, on Aug. 17, 2024.
